Wine Review: LaStella 2013 Moscato D’Osoyoos

Are we all over our New Years resolutions to cut back on the alcohol yet? Yes? Okay good.

Because I have a wine that’s going to right tickle your fancy. Ow ow! And for under $20 a bottle too. If that’s not a reason to celebrate something this month, I don’t know what is.

LaStella 2013 Moscato D’Osoyoos Review -

The Wine: LaStella 2013 Moscato D’Osoyoos. 85% Moscato Bianco (aka muscat blanc a petit grains) -15% Muscat ottonel.

Region: Black Sage Bench, Osoyoos Lake District (Okanagan, BC, Canada).

Price: $17.00 by the case or $20.00 direct from the Winery.

Tasting Notes: If you thought Moscato had to be sweet, you thought wrong. Inspired by the renowned Moscato d’Asti of the Piedmont region in Italy, there is an overall fruitiness to the wine – mainly ripe pear and juicy peach. But the bright, crisp acidity and cunning aromatics cut through the sweetness of the wine before the sugar burns your taste buds.

Meal Recommendations: Displaying a light effervescence and less than 10% alcohol content, this wine pairs perfectly with finger food or after lunch with a bloomy, soft cheese. Mirroring the tasting notes, I poured it along side a dessert of Wine Poached Pears and Creamy Ricotta. However, the light sweetness also goes beautifully with spicier food like Mexican, Indian or even Thai.

Overall Thoughts: The LaStella 2013 Moscato D’Osoyoos is a fun, brilliant wine for very good value. I’ll definitely be pouring this at Summer BBQs instead of the bog standard white wine. Or when watching the ever-decaying-just-can’t-help-myself new episodes of Grey’s Anatomy.

What are your feelings on wines with bubbles? What are you celebrating this month? The return of bad TV? The return of good TV? What’s in your glass right now?
