A peach is a sweet and sour fruit that grows in different areas of the world. Freestone and clingstone peaches are the two main varieties of peaches. According to estimates, China will harvest about 15 MMT of peaches and nectarines next crop season, setting a new record for the country’s total crop output.

The production of peaches and nectarines in Spain ranks second in the world. In 2016/2017, the country’s crop volume was 1.79 MMT. The production of peaches and nectarines in Spain fell dramatically in 2017/18 as a result of unfavorable meteorological conditions, reaching just over 1.47 MMT. Peaches and nectarines produced in Spain increased by 130 thousand tons in 2018/2019, reaching a record high of 1.6 million metric tons.

In terms of peach and nectarines production volume, Greece is ranked fourth in the world. Peaches and nectarines are grown on around 41,000 hectares of land in the country. For the most part, the fruits grown in Greece are grown in Macedonia, which is up north (with Imathia and Pella being the key producing counties in the region).
During the 2016/2017 growing season, Greece produced over 902 thousand metric tons of peaches and nectarines (TMT). Greece was one of the few countries to have an increase in peach and nectarines production in 2017/2018, with a total of 938 TMT produced. Peaches and nectarines collected in Greece increased due to favorable weather conditions in 2018/2019.
Greek peaches and nectarines are among the EU’s top exports. Its main export market is Eastern Europe, but it is also making efforts to expand its influence in the Middle East. However, in Western Europe, Greece’s exporters must contend with stiff competition from Spain and Italy, both of which enjoy a better geographic location.
5. United States
The United States is the world’s sixth-largest producer of peaches and nectarines. These fruits are harvested on 45.3 thousand hectares of land throughout the country. Peaches and nectarines are grown in five states in the United States: California, South Carolina, Georgia, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania. California dominates its competitors.
Peaches and nectarines were harvested in the United States in slightly more than 775 TMT in 2016/2017. There was a reduction in the country’s fruit production in 2017/2018 to 758 TMT and a further decline to 687 TMT in 2018/2019.
As you can see, peaches grow in various parts of the world. China is the largest producer of the fruit at the moment, followed by Spain and Italy. Greece and the United States also produce large quantities of peaches.
