What Cheese Goes with Blueberries

Blueberry cheesecake on a black dish.

Fresh blueberries are a popular treat during the summer. They are sweet, nutritious, and wildly popular. Plus, blueberries have been proven to protect against cancer, heart disease, and many other illnesses. When combined with various spices, they bring out different, aromatic flavors that make them even more scrumptious and succulent. The benefits of blueberries include lowering cholesterol levels, blood pressure, improving insulin sensitivity, and much more.

When it comes to cheese, many people say they can’t live without it, but they despise the fact that it can make you obese and cause heart disease. The truth is that cheese is considered a full food. As long as you don’t consume too much of one thing, whole foods are generally healthy.

Blueberries and cottage cheese have many differences and relatively few similarities. If you are looking for palatable pairings, it’s a good idea to see how these two compare in different characteristics, primarily food and texture.

Blueberries and Cheddar Cheese

To round out this nutritious cheese and nut snack, blueberries add just the right touch of sweetness.

Blueberries with Cottage Cheese

Cottage cheese has a salty and creamy flavor. If you want to try cottage cheese without being too daring, go for one with a 4 percent milk fat level. It’s incredibly creamy, and hence, most likely to be tolerated by those who have never had cottage cheese.

In reality, the amount of milk fat in the cottage determines its flavor. Cottage cheese with a higher fat level has a milkier flavor, whereas low-fat cottage cheese has a sourer flavor.

Ingredients

  • Cottage cheese
  • Canned blueberries
  • Cool whip
  • Chopped almonds
  • Pineapples

Method

Step 1

In a large mixing bowl, combine chopped almonds, cottage cheese, crushed and drained pineapple, and cool whip and dry blueberries.

Step 2

Allow 1 hour for the salad to set in the refrigerator before serving.

Step 3

Pineapple is not a necessary ingredient, and you can easily make the same salad without the orange fruit adding extra fruitiness. Either way, it’s a low-calorie treat to munch on during the evening or late afternoon.

Final Thoughts

Blueberries actually pair quite well with almost any type of cheese. Mild cheese like mozzarella and feta goes well with the tangy and sweet notes of blueberries. On the other hand, people may feel a bit skeptical about pairing cottage cheese and blueberries, although a salad would be a great choice! Perhaps some types of cheese can only be combined into some tasty desserts and salad. If you look deep into the internet’s rabbit hole of recipes, you might find other pairings as well.
