Updates from Mission Pie

LUNCHTIME! Art Reception Weds October 14 5-7pm

Faces from behind our public school lunch-counters.
Drawings by Kai Klaassen

Kai Klaassen’s portraits of SFUSD lunchroom staff are now installed at Mission Pie for the month. Kai is an artist, a welder, and an SFUSD parent and volunteer. This is the second set of portraits by Kai Klaassen that Mission Pie is proud to host. Kai is an artist and a tradeswoman with a reverence for work, and her paintings and drawings show that to be true.

When we heard that Kai was using men and women who are SF Unified School District lunchroom staff for her most recent work, we asked if she would hang them at Mission Pie during October, corresponding with National School Lunch Week (October 12-18.)

We wanted to highlight Kai’s journalistic approach to her locally-grown artwork to bring attention to the challenging task faced by lunch-makers and administrators of school district food programs who are called to do a bigger and bigger job, with inadequate resources.
